Traditional dentures are removable artificial teeth that rest on a gum-colored plastic base. While past generations may have struggled with ill-fitting dentures, Dr. Sartini uses advanced techniques to provide secure and comfortable restorations. Before providing you with dentures, she will perform a custom smile design to choose the right shape, size, and color for your new teeth. She will also analyze your facial structure to ensure that your new dentures look and feel incredibly natural.
Following your smile design, she will send your measurements to a trusted dental lab, where technicians will create high-quality, durable dentures. While you are waiting for your permanent restorations, you can wear your old dentures, or Dr. Sartini can provide you with temporary restorations. If you are looking to replace your dentures, she can also provide exact copies, although most patients benefit from her skill in making modifications for an improved fit and look.
To receive traditional dentures, the entire process typically takes about six weeks. For patients coping with sudden tooth loss and who need restorations right away, Dr. Sartini can provide immediate dentures. By eliminating the more intensive process of trying on and adjusting the dentures several times, you can enjoy a restored smile in about two weeks, or as soon as your gums have finished healing.
Like traditional dentures, implant-supported dentures can restore your entire upper or lower dental arch. Instead of resting directly on your gums, implant-supported dentures attach to permanent implant posts. With such a secure support system, these dentures will not slip out of place and offer greater stability than traditional dentures. In addition, they also prevent the jawbone atrophy that accompanies long-term tooth loss.
Patients can also benefit from mini dental implants, which have a smaller diameter and are often a good solution for patients with an already compromised jawbone structure. After taking a series of x-rays to determine if you are a good candidate for implants, Dr. Sartini will refer you to a trusted oral surgeon who will perform magnetic resonance imaging scans (MRIs) and surgically place your implant posts. You will then return to our office to have your dentures expertly fitted and placed.
The Atlas™ System
In some cases, Dr. Sartini may suggest the innovative Atlas Denture Comfort™ system. This unique type of denture combines traditional placement with implant technology. During this procedure, an oral surgeon will embed four to six ultra-narrow titanium Atlas™ implants in your jaw. Next, Dr. Sartini will fill your dentures with a soft silicone lining that grips the exposed tops of the implant posts. When your gums have fully healed, she will adjust the lining for a sturdier fit. This system offers greater stability than traditional implants, and can also help to slow jawbone degeneration.
