Dental Implants are the ideal way to replace a missing tooth.
When a tooth is lost, the bone starts to shrink and resorb in that area.
The dental bone does not like having a tooth missing and will slowly “melt like snow”.
With a dental implant, the bone recognizes that the implant is not going away and the resorption stops. This is very exciting for our dentists, and being able to offer this to the patient as a way to preserve bone is fantastic.

If one of those teeth are healthy, it is not in the best interest of the patient to have that healthy tooth ground on. As I mentioned, overtime, the gum under the false tooth in the bridge shrinks and creates a space for food to get trapped. It’s annoying and difficult to clean. Cleaning under a dental bridge, especially in the molar area, where most missing teeth are, can be difficult. When the connecting areas under the bridge aren’t cleaned properly or frequently, decay occurs and the bridge fails and needs to be remade. As I mentioned, overtime, the gum under the false tooth in the bridge shrinks and creates a space for food to get trapped. It’s annoying and difficult to clean.
The advantage of a single tooth implant, the patient flosses between the teeth as usual, focusing on the neck or base of the implant crown.The resulting tooth is beautifully formed and becomes a comfortable part of the patients dentition.
An MRI is taken for the placement of the implant to be in the strongest bone possible.
Healing time is approximately 4 month and you wear a temporary tooth, so you’re never without one. If a tooth needs to be extracted, often the implant can be placed at the time of the extraction.
